There’ll be pressing, picking, tasting, herb-mixing and geeking out when the Open-Air Museum holds its Harvest Market on 26–27 September. In the old days, the harvest feast was the highlight of the year, and with that festive energy we’ve put together a harvest weekend for the whole family. Taste your way to happiness with the best seasonal produce. Let the children run wild in the hay bales. Buy and learn about the good old seed varieties and get tips for your garden.

Practical information

  • The Harvest Market takes place at the museum’s north entrance, so it’s a good idea to start your visit there. Here you’ll find both our newly opened Café Haystack, the ticket office and the parking lot.
  • You save 10%, when you buy your admission ticket online, but you can also buy it on the day.
  • It is not possible to reserve a spot at the workshops in advance. There is a maximum of 40 spots, so you reserve a place in the workshop tent on the day in question. This is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The ticket gives access to the entire museum, the market, music, debates, animal presentations and workshops. Some activity workshops and all products in the market stalls require payment or an activity card. Admission is free for annual pass holders.

Activities
The harvest market offers plenty of fun, games, and crafts for both young and old. Try your hand at plant dyeing, mix-and-match your own apple selection, go on a colorful apple hunt, and win prizes. The activities are open from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Farm animals
We invite you to a game of "chicken bingo," where you can bet on which square the chickens will poop in and win great prizes. You can also join in when we feed the pigs.

Come along
At the Harvest Market, we celebrate all the gifts nature has bestowed upon us throughout the year. That is why the weekend’s guided tours focus on the forest’s larder and our historic gardens.
A stall at the harvest market selling fresh vegetables which are divided into boxes. Carrots, leeks, onions and red onions are sold from the stall.

Food and drinks
No Harvest Market would be complete without good food and drink! Visitors can satisfy both light and hearty appetites at the food stalls and the Open Air Museum’s new café. And in the market square, we serve whole-roasted free-range pork from our own pastures.

Music and dance
Throughout the day, the venue will be filled with the rich sounds of live folk music. In the afternoon, the festivities ramp up as the musicians invite everyone to dance - all ages and levels of experience - and show guests how traditional folk dances are performed.
