A spooky autumn holiday for the whole family
A veil of eerie wonder settles over The Open Air Museum as we celebrate Halloween during the autumn holidays.
Nordic folklore is filled with dangerous creatures and during Halloween, you may be unlucky enough to come face to face with some of them. From 11–19 October, children and grown-ups alike can arm themselves with troll crosses, amulets, pumpkin lanterns, silver, and other superstitious charms to keep the dark forces from taking over both town and mind.
One of the creatures you’ll encounter this year is the Åmand — the mysterious spirit of lakes and rivers — brought to life in this year’s Halloween theatre experience.

Troll Theatre
Every day at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., you can take a seat in the courtyard and enjoy a troll-themed theater performance. The show is suitable for the whole family, offering a cozy and fun experience that lasts no more than 20 minutes.
Creative workshops
Make your own broomstick and fly on the witch's flying course, create amulets and magic crosses, and learn about the methods people used in the old days to protect themselves from everything dangerous and supernatural.
Spooky pumpkins and magical lights
In Frøsnapperbyen, a spooky maze, a pumpkin workshop, and a visit to the blacksmith await. With his fire and air of mystery, the blacksmith was associated with dark magic. You can also color candles to brighten the autumn darkness.
A frighteningly good magic show
Joey the Clown is ready with magic and spooky-fun tricks at the circus grounds in Frøsnapperbyen every day at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Joey puts on a frightfully good magic show that will have the whole family laughing. The show takes place by the Big Top in Frøsnapperbyen.
The Magic of the Forest
Have you ever heard of the hulder? What about elves, witches, and trolls? Join our family tour, where one of our museum guides will tell you about magical creatures and how to protect yourself from them. The tour starts at 12:30 p.m. at Forten, no. 69 on the map.
Get your face painted
Would you like a little ghost on your cheek, to be painted as a scary skeleton, or as a menacing pumpkin? Then you can have your face painted in the village, where we'll be joined by the talented face painters from Gertrud's Universe.
Try the witch's flight path
Grab your broomstick and go wild on the witch's flying course, made of large straw bales where you can jump, run and play.
