At the hayloft, you can climb to the top, dive into the hay, and launch into a good old-fashioned hay fight just as generations of children in the countryside have done.
You’ll find the hayloft in one of the barns at Lundager, a traditional four-winged farmstead in the Funen village.
Let your imagination run free among the hay, and discover history through play

The hayloft was not a playground
In the old days, the hayloft was no place to play. This was where the farm’s precious harvest was stored: hay, straw and grain on the stalk. It was the vital winter supply for both people and animals, and used to seal the roof.
When harvest time came around, everyone pitched in. Also the children. Together, they filled the loft, and once the work was done, the season was celebrated with a harvest feast.
Perhaps children in more recent times have sneaked up to play hide-and-seek among the hay, after the combine harvester made it possible to separate grain from stalk out in the field and the farm’s residents became less dependent on the harvest than before.
Fortunately, things are different on our hayloft today. Here, you’re welcome to climb, jump, play, and explore as much as you like.
