A daytrip from Copenhagen

Wether you like playing in the hay, beautiful scenery, living danish history og a race in a soap box car, theres something for you at The Open Air Museum close to Copenhagen.

Kids always go free (0-17 years) and adults get 10% discount on tickets online.

Public transportation

Take S-train Line E or Line A to Sorgenfri station and walk about 10 minutes. Line E runs on weekdays and Line A on weekends.

Bus 184 and 194 stop right at the main entrance, Kongevejen 100. The Jægersborg-Nærum train stops in Brede close to the north entrance of Frilandsmuseet.

From Copenhagen Airport (CPH) you can take the Metro or regional train to Copenhagen Central Station (København H), then transfer to the S-train toward Sorgenfri. Allow around 45–60 minutes in total, depending on connections.

Arrival: Walk around and take in the scenery and grab a map of the area in the entrance. The farms are being opened during the first hour of the day. Visit the farms, houses and mills - the light is best for photos early in the day. Find the hayloft, where you can jump and play in the hay together.

Midday: Meet the animals between the farms, where you can experience feeding the pigs and goats. Some days you can also meet volunteers in costumes in some of the houses and mills.

Grab lunch at Landkiosken or Café Haystack, or bring your own food to one of the picnic areas.

Afternoon: Visit the Freddy Frogface Village and play around in the minihouses, get lost in the labyrinth, play around the playground and race in the soapbox cars.

Evening: When the museum closes down for the day, you can walk on to Brede Works (via the north entrance) to see the historic textile mill and workers houses (from the outside) and take a stroll by the beautiful lake. Here you can find dinner at one of the restaurants or head back to Copenhagen.
